Raphaelle's Report: VOSCD10064 Bellydance with Setrak
This CD is a curiosity for Arabic music nerds mainly because of the dated sounds of the synth BUT it really sounds like Egyptian live cabaret music. The sound quality is good and some tracks are worth a listen. Good for class and cabaret work if you don't work with an orchestra! Track 2,4,8, 9 and 10 are good for stage as well.
Tracks:
1. Ya Ayn Moulayteyn; 6:49 - Very well known Lebanese Debke with a nice crispy sound...and inserts of unexpected drum solos!
2. Baladi Ya Wad; 5:08 - Another famous track "Ya Habibi Ya Eini" played in a traditional Baladi style. Probably one of the best versions I have ever heard.
3. Mrssal El Hob; 5:09 - Traditional Malfoof rhythm piece recorded cabaret style.
4. Wein Aramallah; 4:20 - Oriental
5. Khatwat Habibi; 3:39 - Oriental
6. Lela-Lela; 6:18 - Lively Lebanese Debke.
7. Ya Dirawiya; 3:58 - Traditional Oriental
8. Nakal Ya Ghazali & Belleil; 3:31 - Very good traditional Oriental
9. Takassim Tabla; 4:28 - Tabla solo with some spacy sounds...quite fun!
10. Part 1/Part 2; 7:18 - An absolutely awesome drum solo with suspense and flamboyance...one of the best Setrak probably recorded. Enjoy !
