
Al Masdar the source is a homage to the traditional Shaabi music of Upper Egypt which, with its roots in the fellah (folk) culture, emmbodies the heritage of its rich history from the pharaonic age to the present time.
Al Masdar is a regrouping of 12 virtuosos musicians and singers of the older and present generation Rababa, Mizmar, Tabla Baladi, Duff & Kawala.
The Al Masdar projet required a preparation period of nine months to present a unique, rich and varied selection of hitherto unrecorded melodies and improvisations.
Al Masdar was recorded in Cairo, in one of the best recording studios in Egypt, in January 2007. The CD is accompanied by a booklet of 24 pages containing information on Shaabi music, the instruments, the musicians and numerous photos.
