EGYPT
This is the first in Yoursy Sharif's highly acclaimed "Wash Ya Wash" series of music CDs.
Morwenna Assaf: Wash Ya Wash was produced in Egypt as a cooperative work between Yousry Sharif and Raqia Hassan. The music is beautiful and very diversified and the orchestra is perfection! The conductor and arranger for all musical selections was Moktar al-Said who passed away a few month after this was completed. Yousry Sharif and Raqia Hassan shared the artistic direction on the CD.
There are 2 complete dances on this compact disc. Even though you can do a whole routine, each cut is a complete dance within itself. Some of you might know the first number El Malika (the Queen) as Yousry used this music to teach to when he toured last year. It's almost seven minutes long and has so many written changes its incredible. All the music on this 60 minutes CD is very well thought out and the music arrangements are magnificent.
Yousry Sharif was born and trained in Cairo, Egypt and is the director of the Egyptian Academy of Oriental Dance in NYC. He is an international renowned choreographer and also director of the Yousry Sharif Dance Ensemble. Yousry is known for his acute musical sensitivity, originality and sophistication in the dance.
Raqia Hassan has devoted her life to teaching this dance form. She coaches professional dancers in Egypt and was a long term very valued number of the Mahmoud Reda Troupe in Cairo, Egypt. Raqia is an impeccable artist imparting technique and esthetic values with enthusiasm and vision.
