"Welcome to the World of Middle Eastern Dance," formally known in the Middle East as "Raqs Sharqi." In this DVD Nourhan will break down the basic movements required for the "Sharif Technique" which is based on Egyptian Style Raqs Sharqi. This DVD is for beginners who aspire to learn the art of Raqs Sharqi, as well as intermediate and advanced dancers to "clean" up on their technique. The basics must be in the body at all times in order to execute the more advanced movements, and this is the first step to getting there! Learning any art form takes much discipline and practice.
This DVD is an attempt to introduce you to the technique and inspire you to pursue this art further, but it is not a substitute for live classes with a qualified instructor.

Nourhan Sharif has 30 years of training, performance, and teaching experience in Middle Eastern Dance, specializing in Egyptian and Lebanese Cabaret and Folkloric dancing. Ms. Sharif resides in New York and is the Executive Director for the Egyptian Academy of Oriental Dance. She currently teaches at the New Dance Group Arts Center in NYC & at workshops around the world. She has produced CDs for training and performance of Raks Sharqi, as well as Mr. Sharif's first choreography video "Hazar Fazar" and is currently developing other technique tools.
