Sufi
Qawwali is the single most important devotional ritual of the Sufis (Islamic mystics) from the Indian sub-continent. Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is one othe most revered masters of this style, in his own country of Pakistan and worldwide. He was descended from a long line of classical musicians and qawwals, and was capable of reducing the audiences to tears with his powerful and hypnotising rhythms that express the Sufi message of love and unity. This album charts his much-loved tracks and includes classic examples of Nusrat's qawwali repertoire, as well as some of his lighter, more modern numbers that became enormmously popular on the dance floor,
