Classical Egyptian
Ibrahim El Minyawi was born in the Nile Valley in Upper Egypt. With his outstanding musical talent from an early age, particularly on the Tabla, it was inevitable that he would become a career musicien. After working with a number of top orchestras, singers and dancers Ibrahim moved to London in 1980, performing in Arab nightclubs. In 1983 he met the noted Egyptian dancer and choreographer, Suraya Hilal, leading to a long term colaboration. Ibrahim is still a towering influence on the London scene, but finds time to travel and record with the Hilal Art Foundation.
Ibrahim's son, Ali, first appeared on stage in 1999, and he accompanies his father on this CD playing Dahulla or Doff.
