Besides using traditional oriental instruments such as the darbuka (goblet drum), rik (riqq, tambourine), kanun (qanun, zither), saz (Turkish lute), nay (flute) and santur (dulcimer), Emad Sayyah also utilises modern instruments such as the saxophone, oboe, clarinet, accordion, keyboards and violin. He writes soft and harmonic arrangements avoiding quarter tones to create a new and modern sound with easily accessible melodies and rhythms, which facilitate and enhance movement of the body and expression in the dance.
